Esther Real, university professor, will be the new director of the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Roads, Canals and Ports of Barcelona for the next 4 years, taking over from Professor Pedro Diez, who has directed the center since October 2016 .
Esther Real was the first former student professor at the Escuela de Caminos and once she takes office, she will be the first woman to lead the School for the next 4 years. Voting took place from November 4 to 9 through the electronic ballot box system and today, November 11, the results are declared final.
Doctor of roads, channels and ports engineering from the UPC, Esther Real has been a professor in metallic structures since 2018, she is a member of the ATEM research group: Analysis and Technologies of Structures and Materials of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, she has been a member of various management teams of the Escuela de Caminos and vice-rector Transfer of Technology of the UPC-BarcelonaTech.
Her research focuses on the nonlinear analysis of steel structures. In particular, structural problems associated with the instability of carbon steel and stainless steel elements. All her work is reflected in numerous articles in international indexed journals. Regarding stainless steel, she has actively contributed to the continuous development of EN1993, which provides recommendations for the design of stainless steel structures.
